TG #12: Guest Host Michael Swindler, iPod News, and More

September 18, 2008 – 9:55 pm

This episode of Tweak and Geek features our first Secret Mystery Guest Host, Michael Swindler. OOPS, that secret is totally out of the bag now. So are the new iPods, Microsoft’s retort to Mac commercials, a replacement for Adobe Acrobat Reader, and more of the witty banter you’ve come to expect.

Random stuff…

  • The new Microsoft commercial
  • Google’s Chrome Browser
A description, by Google, in comic form.
    Check out the URL about:internets
  • (Post Production: “Chrome” actually refers to anything on a browser that’s not actually rendering the html page…)

What Would a T&G Episode be Without iPods?

  • New Ipods
    Nano (motion sensor)
    Cheaper Touches
  • Itunes 8
    Genius – cross-marketing madness
    Accessibility
    NBC Coming back (hooray, BGS!)
HD TV Shows (but you probably need an Apple TV to appreciate that)
    New Visualizer
  • Ipod Touch and iPhone S/W 2.1 – Fewer crashes and a volume fix. Free if you bought 2.0
  • (Post Production: If you’ve upgraded to 2.0, you don’t have to pay the 9.95 to get to 2.1… take that, Pat!)

Foxit Reader — a lightweight, fast, cheap alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  5. I have to admit I was not impressed with Chrome at first. But after listening to your podcast I gave it another try.

I will say for Gmail I set up a shortcut application link and for that use it is way way fast. In fact I have quit using Thunderbird to check my gmail now and use Chrome.

I really…really… do not like the colors. Needs more orange 🙂
